How we calculate this

Rows = bed height ÷ the board's actual (dressed) width — a 2x6 is really 5.5in, a 2x8 is 7.25in, and so on. Each row needs two length-cuts and two width-cuts; we figure out how many stock boards that takes by fitting those cuts onto boards of the length you buy (8, 10, or 12 ft), then multiply by the number of rows. Screws are 2 per board end at every corner (16 per row), corner brackets are 4 per bed, and boards get your waste margin on top.
